I really enjoyed learning more about Erika, considering she was not a character in the powder mage trilogy. Other than brief mentions anyways. It really gave some insight into how Tamas and Taniel acted throughout the series.

Though the story was brief, I felt all the tension in suspense of a full length novel. I thought it was very well written, and absolutely added a certain something to the entire series as a whole. I would read this again I'm looking looking forward to reading the remaining novellas.

This is a nice little novella to begin a series and to introduce world building
Caveat, I have not begun the main novel as of yet - i am going chronologically, starting with the novellas prior to the main series.

I have loved this concept, and always wanted to see Firearms and Fantasy mixed together. This is done in an interesting and fun way. The action is flowing, the dialog is fitting, and the world building is quick, but detailed.

I look forward to flying through the five novellas before taking on the task to read the series, but I will say that this is a well-written quick tale and that I enjoyed it very much.

EDIT:
Having now read all five of the Prologue short stories, this is by far my favorite one, especially if you know who this story is about. It is all the more powerful. Excellent read.

Oooh, I liked this! A very intriguing magic system fitted into some basic world building. Felt similar to the Shadow Campaigns novels in that it's a flintlock fantasy. The characters here were interesting but the villains a little too evil. Still, I will read the next prequel and then probably book 1 which has been widely lauded.

A short novella in the same world as the author's powder mage trilogy, this was a very interesting story, and one that helps as an introduction to the main elements of this world. The author's writing style is smooth and enjoyable, reminiscent of the classic writers of the previous decade. My major gripe with this one is about the characters' motivations and subsequent actions, which unfortunately are not always either realistic or logical. I will try to read the author's main trilogy but I will be weary for such signs of unjustifiable characterisation. In any case, this novella earns a recommended sign from me!

As always - Great story! I adored it - and the short length made it perfect for a little breather in between other books.
If you already liked the other Powder Mage books - you will love this too.
If you haven't read the other yet? Why the heck are you still here reading reviews? Go and BUY those amazing books and get reading already!! ;)
