Stephen King may have wrote this book but he does not understand Carrie White like I do. 

This story is I know branded as horror but, to me, this is a tragedy. Carrie was betrayed by this town. They sat by and watched her mom ruin her and did nothing. And at the end of it they frame her as evil. She was just a child. A broken child who deserved so much better than that.

I’m glad I finally read this classic. I knew part of the story prior to picking it up, but there were still a few surprises, as well.

I think I would’ve gotten more into the story if there were traditional chapters.

For the first half of the book, I kept thinking to myself “Whatever Carrie does, they have it coming” (save for, like, 3 or 4 characters), but once she started getting her revenge, I stopped rooting for her. I didn’t dislike her, but I wanted her and everyone else to just…not.

Maybe I would have enjoyed this book more if I wasn't already familiar with the story from the film but it wasn't really engaging. Also I hate the lack of chapters, this is a pet peeve of mine but in particular for this book it made it feel like it would never end.

 king's writing style was there from the get go (if you ignore the many other non-published non-novel writing he did before this), and its interesting to see how confident his prose is right away (including his less than savory ways of describing people). really liked the epistolary structure of it - the build up to the actual event was incredibly tense and well paced, especially since it lived up to the hype. overall very strong, very sad, and very engrossing!
