WOW. There's just something about Ed Brubaker's writing. Hope the Omnibuses get reprinted.

THIS IS SO SAD. I CRIED ABOUT A FEW TIMES.
I did enjoy Bucky's inner monologues too.

There's not a lot that really distinguishes this in and of itself - the art is kind of the same thing we've been seeing on Brubaker's run all along, and the script isn't really that interesting (and also weirdly puts a lot crap on Sharon Carter, which sits funny with me). This is another storyline I've kind of cooled on - maybe I'll come back to it later.

The way that this was written felt really weird. There were chapters from different characters pov but then interludes from different characters pov... Wouldn't it make more sense just have them all be chapters?
(The only reason that I can think of is that is what the issues of the comic was called)

Captain America after Steve Rogers' resumption of the title has gone drastically downhill. It's decent espionage-ish superheroics, I guess, but the characterization is flat and the plotting unsurprising. There's nothing here that hasn't been done better before, often by Brubaker himself.
Post-Rogers resurrection Sharon Carter continues to be a cipher.
In retrospect, it seems very clear that what makes Brubaker's run so distinctive is Bucky Barnes -- the Rogers storylines derive much of their tension and emotional impact from the fall-out of his survival and trauma, and Bucky's attempts to deal with Steve's death and legacy are compelling. (Honestly, I kind of think of Bucky as Brubaker's Mary Sue -- but it's Mary Sue done right.)
Nice art.

I'm not that into Captain America comics, but I actually enjoyed this arc. Seeing a major superhero die and having a universe commit to keeping that character dead is always interesting, but this was particularly well-structured and well-written overall.

it's canon that there are agents at shield who think bucky is sexy and i don't know what to do with this information
