Throughout history, food has done more than simply provide sustenance. It has acted as a catalyst of social transformation, societal organization, geopolitical competition, industrial development, military conflict, and economic expansion. From prehistory to the present, the stories of these transformations form a narrative that encompasses the whole of human history.

This was a fascinating book. It seems to go by the timeline of human history, and it was a fascinating read.
Graphic: Cannibalism and Colonisation
It talks about the Dutch East Indies Company (who did AWFUL things.) The chapter “Food as a Weapon” also mentions cannibalism.corbychev's review against another edition

Overall a nice, informative, easy read. I thought it would be more about the history of food than the history of humanity, but it was still informative and interesting for anybody interested in food and history.
