You always wonder how a second book in a series is going to compare to the first. Will it be as funny? Will it be as clever? Luckily for us, Ballet Cat is in good hands with Bob Shea!
In this hilarious follow-up, we meet Butter Bear, another friend of Ballet. Butter Bear apparently does not want to do Ballet Cat's big leaps, but the reader is left wondering why. The end result is laugh out loud funny, and begs to be read over and over again.

I fell in love with Ballet Cat in the summer and almost love this one as much as The Totally Secret Secret.

Easy book for my daughter to read and she likes that it’s about ballet.

Adorable. And love the little nod to Unicorn from Unicorn Thinks He's Pretty Great.

Poor Butter Bear! She didn't realize when she was going to hang out with Ballet Cat that she's also be forced to do tremendous leaps. If she had, she would have prepared differently (in the underpants department, that is!).

Bob Shea hits it out of the park again with Ballet Cat. She's cute and colorful and totally enthusiastic about everything. I know if I was Butter Bear I would want Ballet Cat as my friend. Two thumbs up for fun and creative easy readers!

So cute! This Buckeye Children's Book Award nominee (K-2) tells the story of Butter Bear, getting ready for her dance, but who keeps coming up with reasons why she can't do the leap--she's hungry, she's thirsty, she needs to hibernate first! She reveals to Cat why she's afraid to jump: the audience will laugh at her underwear! But Cat reassures her that if she dances with all her heart, "the only thing they will see is the beauty of ballet." And it works. And then of course, because this is a cute kids' book, we see Cat's underwear at the end! Ha! "What's so funny about underpants?" indeed! Snort.

My son, who loves cats, checked this out of the library. I haven't read the first book in this series yet (this is the second) but it isn't necessary to like this book. I thought it was cute and my son laughed out loud the entire time, even when there wasn't any underwear involved. What I really liked about this was... **SPOILERS**

...that 1) you didn't know Butter Bear's secret fear right away, that 2) when you do discover it and Ballet Cat tries to console him, the fear comes true anyway (this is rare for a children's book), and 3) that Butter Bear's fear doesn't really matter after all.
