Sure, the author happens to be my cousin, but this is a great read by any standard :)
The Ruins is set in Saxon Britain - a many-conquered land where competing peoples and religions jostle uncomfortably together. Through the story of Edward, a naive thane's son come to court, Bristow-Bailey takes a refreshingly modern look at an often overlooked period of British history, full of political intrigue, sex, and questions of identity.
