This book should be required reading in all high/secondary schools in the world.
‘They Called Me a Lioness’ is by far the most accessible book I’ve yet to read about the Palestinian struggle and life under Israeli occupation.  All relevant aspects of the issue are addressed (including historical, political, legal, cultural, etc), all from the first person perspective of a teenaged Palestinian girl.
If I were to try to introduce someone to the subject of Palestine, I would first have them look up “the Nakba,” then I would immediately hand them a copy of this book!

Absolutely incredible read. I loved the audiobook and felt that the other author, Dena, did a wonderful job bringing such painful moments and slivers of joy to life. Ahed’s story is heartbreaking and no person should ever have to endure such hardship, especially at such a young age. But despite how dark this book is, Ahed is still able to speak with such hope for the future.

If you are looking to learn more about what Palestinians experience under occupation, this is a really good place to start as a microcosm of the situation.

Never has a book been so important at this moment and yet I don’t have words to describe the horrors and tragedy that Ahed has seen in her young life. Yet despite all the pain and suffering she’s witness, her strong and determination is amazing.  Spending eight months in a prison only causes her beliefs and determination to grow.

I wanted to read a book from a Palestinian’s point of view and this book was a tough read but I leaned a lot while reading.
