3.5 stars barely rounded up. The ending saved this book from the mess it was earlier. Some very good mental health content is here, but sometimes it is more confused than clarified by being witnessed through the eyes of children. I think a lot of the Carl interactions could have been shortened or cut because it was redundant nonsensical talk that didn't move the story forward.

This book was amazing and not necessarily good amazing, thought altering amazing. It’s hard to explain the story in short version but it was emotion invoking. I felt so many different emotions during this book. Sadness, anger, desperation, shock and briefly happiness. This was an incredibly well written book about a very tough subject: child abuse and neglect. Instead of having to turn each page to know what happens it became a desperation to find out if things got better. That was a very different feeling for me reading a novel, it definitely evoked emotions I’m not used to embracing but I recommend this book to everyone. 5 stars.

I very much enjoyed this book. The children who we hear the story from are such strong and brave people. It is heartbreaking what they were put through.
I would recommend this book.

TW: neglect and abuse. Gut-wrenching, Heart-wrenching, engrossing mystery thriller. Told in the points of view of the children, Maisy and Rowan. Gloria was making her family a living hell. Her total control drove her husband Telly to a divorce and Rowan to run away from home.

This book was really well done. Nicole Lundrigan does an amazing job of changing her voice depending on whether it’s Maisy or Rowan’s perspective. I was so emotionally engrossed in this book that there were several times I had to set it down to take a break. The events toward the end of the book are pretty easy to see coming, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this and will definitely be checking more Nicole Lundrigan books out.
