Mrs. Jewls definitely make the books better. Like the third one, this one is told in a more cohesive story format. I personally like the format of the first two the best. Like the others, this was fun and quirky, but I found it to be less entertaining overall.

So one day I get an e-mail from Goodreads saying that there is a new book from an author I've read. I always like checking these e-mails because I like trying to keep up on what books are coming out. One book I didn't expect to be within these e-mails was a new Wayside School book. It only took 25 years for this sequel, but you wouldn't know there was that much of a time gap going from Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger to Wayside School Beneath the Cloud of Doom. The gang is all here, Mrs. Jewls, Louis, Kathy, D.J., Sharie, Miss Zarves (there is no Miss Zarves) and well Todd would be here but he was sent home early.

In general the humor and general wackiness that is a Wayside school book is still here. This time all taking place under the ominous Cloud of Doom. So if you want more Wayside school after twenty-five years, you can look here and find the school just like you left it all those years ago. I did like that Mr. Kidswatter and Dr. Pickell got a little more time in this book as well, as they had some pretty funny chapters.

If I had one complaint about the book, it was I wish we heard a little more about Miss Nogard and Louis' current relationship, but she does make an appearance in the book. There was also a distinct lack of Mrs. Gorf, but perhaps that's for the best since there was plenty of things going on without her or her son being involved.

Overall, Wayside School Beneath the Cloud of Doom is another wacky and funny book in a series of wacky and funny books. Whether you are a old or new fan of the series, you'll have a lot of fun with this book and chances are so will your kids. I know our kids loved the books.

It was fun to return to Mrs. Jewls' class after all of this time and revisit the wild antics of the children on the 30th story of Wayside School. The newest edition doesn't have the outrageous creativity of chapters in the original trilogy like "Poetry," "Pet Day," or "Dr. Pickel." And both my children and I were disappointed when we got to chapter 19 and it was just a normal chapter.

However, this entire series remains a fun, family read-aloud.

This is the first and only Wayside book I first read as an adult (so no nostalgia) and it still tickled. Great stories for kids. So funny.
