This is one of my favourite childhood books and it still holds up. I listened to it slowly through the Sleepy Bookshelf Podcast which gave me all of the nostalgic feelings of falling asleep to the radio play as a child. I still loved all the things I loved before but gained a new appreciation for how natural Anne's coming of age was and how she matured while maintaining her wonderful personality. All of the other characters were just as loveable: Marilla, Matthew, Diana, Miss Stacey, Gilbert I could go on. This truly is my comfort read and I don't think it is the last time I will read it.

I wish I had liked this more! Some of Anne's bits just dragged out for so long. I loved the start and ending, but around 60% way through I felt quite bored. Maybe I thought that there would've been more adventure and less monologue. Loved the main characters so much!
I read this as an audiobook (loved the narrator).

Thank you to The StoryGraph and the Audrey app for hosting this giveaway and providing the opportunity to enter it! :)

Ahhhhhhh I can’t believe I waited so long to read this charming novel!! When I was about 10, I remember attempting to read Anne of Green Gables, but because I was a stupidly judgemental 10-year-old; I thought Anne was annoying so I never finished it…until now.

I’m so glad I gave this another chance because I thoroughly LOVED this book!! I’m really excited to read the rest of the series too! 😄

The cast for this audiobooks is amazing, especially Mary Kate Wiles as Anne and Dylan Saunders as Matthew.

oh i love anne so much. i‘m so attached to the characters, they will always have a special place in my heart.
i read the book after watching the tv show (anne with an e) several times so i was already in love with anne before reading the book. i‘m definitely curious to find out what happens with her in the next ones!!
even though i will probably never be able to fully relate to her, her romantic nature, imagination and joy for the small things in life make me want to cry (in a good way)

Spoiler very heartbroken about matthew’s death as he was such an important character for anne and her development

i definitely found a lot of comfort in this book but can’t ignore the fat shaming and racism
