Historical fantasy novel that reflects the state of Japan's economy from 1980 to 2012: a magical mailbox creates a bubble in time that connects past and present with letters. As more letters appear, you see how the characters' lives intersect. The convergence point is very moving!

Content notes: contains themes of death, suicide, aging parents

an easy read although the timeline can get a bit confusing at times. the book throws you right in the middle of the story with no prior instructions and for each chapter you’re simply on a ride following the thread that connects each and every person together. you’re not following 1 character but rather the unbelievable string of fate that brings it all together. it’s a very beautiful story, each chapter like a puzzle piece that helps you fully understand the big picture. you won’t truly understand this book until you reach the end. made me tear up a few times, it’s definitely worth reading

This book basically shows us that everyone–no matter from what background you came from–has the right to choose whether you will follow an advice or to do the opposite, to choose a new path or stay in your path, to let go or not to let go, and it's also your choice to regret or not to regret the decisions that you have made. Life is basically a table full of platters with various kind of dishes that are free for you to take, to taste, or to keep. We all have the chance to create a better future for ourselves, no matter how cruel the past was.

Definitely one of the most unique books I’ve read thus far. I’ve liked Keigo Higashino since “The Devotion of Suspect X,” though his other mysteries didn’t quite compare.

Yet, this book made me see again why he’s a great storyteller. I like how all the stories of the characters are tied together, the time traveling, and how everything comes full circle. That ending!

It was really clever how the author weaved all of the storylines together. You definitely have to pay attention while reading this book. I think I would've enjoyed it more if I wasn't in the middle of a reading slump.

I was expecting a little more. I like how everything seems to be connected and I usually enjoy magical realism but the last story was a little too long and I got bored. The end was a little underwhelming.
