I enjoyed the world building in this, it’s a dystopian Mad Max on the high seas feel, although not as extremely wet as Waterworld. Pacing felt like it dragged a little in the middle, and I got a little frustrated with some of the characters angst. The final crux on the angst felt rushed maybe. Action scenes were good. I suspect I’ll pick up the sequel

Draws you in with the promise of scifi-esque lesbian pirates, only to shove the main character together with the only boy at the very end with no development. Gotta leave queerness to side characters. This book was actually very enjoyable, right up until the "romance" at the very end. Seriously, no development. That relationship kind of ruined the rest of the trilogy for me :/

Quick and enjoyable read, but I found myself thinking the entire way through that not much was actually happening. Liked the main character despite finding her very single-minded, a bit dramatic, and hella edgy but not in a good way.
I dunno. Liked it, cool stuff in it, but it hasn't left a great impression on me at all. I don't have anything to really talk about in my review. The last 30 or so pages were cool because of the revelation about Donnally, the fight between two particular characters, and the way things seemed to be heading. But that cliffhanger was just...weird. It doesn't work well.
I appreciated that the romance was a barely-there factor tbh. Caledonia is so focused on one thing because of this one-track-mind she has that she barely even acknowledges her attraction to Oran (which is what it is, it's not love considering she knows nothing about him as a person and she's spent the majority of the book judging him harshly for his past actions), and her sudden steamy kiss with him is kind of glossed over and moved past quickly. That's all fine, 'cause Caledonia feels like the kind of girl who wouldn't fixate too much on hot guy, especially when she's working towards something more important.
That's all I have to say. This review seems more like it's for those who've already read the book, so I half-apologise to those who haven't read it.

Unfortunately I found this one to be rather boring and repetitive. Also the lead female character really annoyed me at times.
I won't be continuing this series but would be interested in seeing what this author writes now as the writing was decent, it was the story that let it down.

This book was just okay. Honestly I feel like if I had physically read it I probably would have DNF’d it because it was kind of slow but then would have an exciting moment and then go back to being slow again. I felt more like this was just girls on a ship instead of girl pirates on a ship, like they told me they were pirates but I wanted to see more pirating. And the technological advances confused me at time, all of a sudden I’d hear about something and I’d be like wait what did they just say? How does that work? If there was more explanation behind it I might have been on board but instead I just felt confused about what was happening. And this romance that happened…did I tune out or something? When did she go from wanting to kill him and throw him overboard to kissing him?? And a lot of the strife between her and her best friend would have been settled if she’d just told her what happened that night 4 years ago.
