Okay, this was cute. Really cute. The good points are that the characters are very lovable and the prompt itself is very fun and lighthearted, although the story is sparkled with tragedies and talk of mental illness (that part was also excellent.)
However, I’ve had some issues with the flashbacks and back and forth between past and present. Sometimes, it felt like the characters in the present hadn’t lived what they were supposed to have lived before which made them sometimes act incoherently. For example,
Rémi tells Tate that what she has with Penny is love. Why is she shocked when she had literally expressed it herself 5 months ago?
.
I’m also a bit meh on the « enemies » (for lack of better words) to lovers. They seem to be bickering and annoyed at each other for like 2 chapters until that is erased and they’re suddenly clearly in love with each other. That was a bit disappointing.
But all in all, that was a fun quick read!

Thank you so much to TeamBkmrk for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review. I’m beyond grateful. This was beautiful.

6 Times We Almost Kissed is deserving of more than 5 stars. If I could give it 6, I would.

A wonderful story of grief, chosen family, and hope. Tess Sharpe manages to pack so much meaning into 300-odd pages, combining romance and mystery to make a story about resilience and growth. I could spend days dissecting her work and still have more to analyse. Sharpe’s writing is so beautiful, so digestible, so gripping, it mixes such heavy and difficult topics, with heartwarming and hopeful ones. I couldn’t put this book down and ended up finishing it in 5 hours. I think this is the type of book you’ll find yourself crying over, but for me, I’m just happy the characters got the ending that was right for them.

I’m so glad this was my first read of the year, but I’m not sure how any book is going to compare.

If you like Tess’s other work, then definitely read this! There is a different vibe to The Girls I’ve Been, but 6 Times still has genius woven into each line. Such fantastic sexuality rep (both MCs are bisexual) and mental health rep.

Please check tws before reading!
