Mission to Disaster takes a more direct approach to being a sequel in the middle grade books of Phase One for a decidedly bigger, relatively darker entry. Its rapid, thrilling pace leads the way for a neatly crafted adventure, well balanced with its wider sphere of focus, while never sacrificing any of its tension. Simple and effective as it is engaging and compelling.

Justina Ireland brings us more of our favorite Jedi prodigy and hits us with some feels on Jedi attachments and maybe even a clever Starros!

Another great middle-grade book that really hits that balance of action, adventure, characters, and mystery! This book left me with questions and I’m guessing Phase II of The High Republic will shed some light on a few answers. Vernestra Rwoh continues to be one of the most enjoyable characters to follow. I love seeing how far she’s come and can’t wait to see where she goes from here!

This is a must-read for any High Republic fan who wants to see more Vernestra and learn about what it looks like when the people lose hope in the Jedi.

Did I mention Ice Gators?

“Sometimes the only thing a Jedi can do is wait for the Force to reveal the next steps. Tell you what, I’ll make you spicy noodles for lunch, and then we can duel a bit. At least it won’t be wasted time.”

Big whiplash from going from a very troubled, introspective YA pov of Imri and Vern (Out of the Shadows) to this very dumbed down middle-grade interpretation of them but that’s to be expected reading all ages of content here. These two books just maybe needed a degree of separation between them. Otherwise, a solid book. Ireland is becoming one of my High Republic writer favourites quickly. Again, bonus points for giving me characters I’m already invested in. Nothing too crazy but it was engaging for a middle-grade book and still felt relevant to the main phase one plot line
