I first read this book over 20 years ago, and again 3 years ago. On this third read, I really enjoyed it. What a weird and surprisingly gripping book. I love how much Leia is in this one.

I’m curious to read more by Barbara Hambly.

——-
This book is bonkers, even for Star Wars. I remembered it having a really dreamlike tone, and it does in many parts, but the first half section is a bit of a slog. There are a lot of cool sci-fi tropes in here, but that don’t exactly fit with the rest of the established world. But that’s kind of par for the course with Legends, and it definitely sets this book apart and makes it more memorable than some of the others. I still like Hambly’s writing a lot better than some of the other entries in the series. Some characters are introduced here that I really wish had gotten more to do later in the EU, while others make appearances but are sadly underused. There are some cool glimpses at what the history of the Jedi looked like before the prequel trilogy established canon there.
