I love everything that Brittainy writes and I found this book to be a sweet and endearing story. While it wasn’t my favorite of her books, it is a good, solid read with the usual charm of Brittainy’s storytelling.

Uff such an emotional book. It’s a story of life after child loss, childhood trauma and second chances. Beautiful and gut wrenching as to me expected.

“I love you in a way that’s bigger than love. I love your sun rays and your moon shadows, and I am going to keep loving you and your broken pieces until you feel my love so strongly you forget your heart has any damaged cracks. Then, I’m going to love you more.”

Brittainy C Cherry does it again with this emotional second chance romance !

After her loss, Kennedy leaves her home in the city for a small town near her sister. What she doesn’t expect is to meet the town jerk and fall for his grumpy self.

This book alternates between past and present every few chapters to really tell Jax and Kennedy’s story. You see them when they first meet at camp at 11 years old and how their bond was formed. It was absolutely the sweetest!

Jax was so grumpy but so sweet underneath! He truly understood Kennedy and didn’t make her feel bad for her sadness.

This story got heavy at times, but there was so much heart and a little bit of humor laced within each chapter that made it beautiful.

Read if you like:
- Small town romance
- second chance romance
- grumpy x sunshine
- nosy neighbors
- small town gossip
- childhood friends / pen pals
CW loss of a child, death, mention of abuse

I just didn’t connect with this like I wanted to. I felt like maybe I could have if I read this a different point in my life but I just wasn’t feeling it. I liked the plot and the small town feel though!

Good lord does Brittainy know how to tell a story. This splits between Jax and Kennedy telling their story, in present day and from the time they were kids. When Kennedy is basically kicked out of her house for grieving too much, she escapes to her sisters house. Trust me this is a good thing, her husband was a grade A a-hole. However figuring out how to start over and figure out how to grieve while still moving forward is hard.

She is trying to figure out her way in the world, when she comes upon a grumpy man who is just mean to her. However what she doesn't realize is that he is the person from her childhood, that helped her see herself as not just the weird girl, but her inner light shined with him as her friend. Seeing how Jax is perceived and how he is with others is just heart warming. He is gentle and caring with Kennedy helping her to openly feel all her feelings without guilt. She is also helping him heal, from the scars of his past. Wonderful read, leaving you feeling like good people do exist.
