This was a short and sweet sort of in-between a few more serious and longer books I plan on reading this year.

I always have troubles rating multiple stories books but this one gets a nice and even 3 stars because I liked some stories and didn't care about the others- I've only heard about 6 out of 12 stories before but here we go:

Princess and the pea- short and sweet, almost too short. This one is only two pages long and barely anything happens.

Thumbelina: This one was nice, though I kind of feel sad for the poor adoptive mother - her child goes missing and she is just never mentioned again.

The Emperor's new clothes- Nice and short stories + I loved the characters.

The little mermaid- I knew that this one was much sadder than Disney version and I knew that it doesn't end that nicely but man I still didn't expect this sort of messed up ending - at least it's somewhat nice compared to original, original.

The steadfast tin solider- tbh I didn't really care for this one. It was just there. It was fine.

The Nightingale- I really liked this one. Haven't heard this one before so this was refreshing, it's a really nice, short and sweet story about a bird and a man.

The ugly duckling- You just have to love this one.

The snow queen- I honestly didn't expect so many religious undertones- but it wasn't horrible- it wasn't good either. At least not my cup of tea.

The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep- Another nice and short one- not too bad, not too good.

The Happy family - this one was just weird to me- I liked the characters well enough but the fact that they hoped to be eaten one day just creeped me out.

The Goblin at the grocer's- another mediocre one I didn't really care about

Dance, Dolly, Dance- another really short one - the poem was really nice, the story was just okay though.

All in all, nice short read- I read a lot of new stories I haven't heard before so that was nice :)

I listened to the audio book and I don't know what version I was listening to, but it didn't include some classics I really want to read such as The Little Mermaid and Thumbelina. However, there were some of what I thought were really beautiful stories in my version which I also felt had a spark of originality lacking in a huge number of classic fairy tales. On the other hand, some of the moral undertones of the stories were so outdated that it was difficult to enjoy these.
