3.75ish ⭐️ 
I think I was set up for failure with this one, everyone has nothing but good things to say but I found it mostly okay. The last quarter of the book is what really got me, and it’s why this isn’t getting a 3. Things really pick up and get quite wild just in time for the book to end. The first half is very….. average. It was slow going for me and I only read a couple chapters at a time. I will continue the series and see if the momentum built at the end carries through, there’s a lot of potential but I’m not sold yet.

I had decided to reread the cruel prince because i seem to have reawakened my taste for ya fantasy. the cruel prince was a fun read (just like it was the first time I read it 2 years ago). I’d like to say my standards have changed since then, nevertheless, it was still pretty good. I will say though, this book is more of ya political fantasy than it is an enemies to lovers story. Is there a notable enemies to frenemies to lovers subplot? yes. Yet, there’s more of faerie politics than anything else. But does the angst make me giggle and kick my feet like a teenage girl? yes.

An excellent book about fantasy court politics and political intrigue. Our heroine is morally gray, but predominatly because of the impossible choices she is put into. I was hooked from start to finish and plan to bump the sequel up on my TBR. If this book was sold to you as an enemies to lovers romance please know this is very minor in the plot (which personally, I loved).
