This book was just very okay. It didn’t give me anything. It didn’t glue me to my seat. But it was enjoyable enough. The world was described beautifully and I liked reading Jude being a little shit. That’s always fun.
I personally don’t understand the hype. I’ve read better enemies-to-lovers and better ya fantasy. But maybe that’s just me. I highly doubt I’ll continue to read the series, this book wasn’t really able to get me engaged with the world, but I’m also glad I now have a better understanding of the book everyone seems to be talking about these days.

When I say I love enemies to lovers I don't mean "abusive-scaring-her-and-down-right-evil" to lovers.
Jude is annoying and the only lovabl  character is vivian.

I liked Cruel Prince the best out of the entire trilogy but honestly I DNF after the start of the third book. I honestly kind of hated Jude as a character after the end of Cruel Prince and I completely couldn’t stand her by the time I finished wicked king. I do love Cardan however he’s never done anything wrong ever. If you want to read a book about faerie politics then you might like this more than I did but it’s really marketed like a romance enemies to lovers when there’s really only like four romantic scenes in the entire series.

Jude is an awesome, powerful, and relatable protagonist whose internal narration really makes the story what it is. I especially appreciate that the author did not water her down or change the sharper aspects of her nature in the name of making her the "good guy." Jude feels things that women and girls are too often told they are not allowed to feel, or incapable of feeling. Others try to tell Jude what she is, try to put her in a box and belittle what she is capable of, and she proves them wrong over and over and over again in ways that are both satisfying and deliciously frightening.

It's so refreshing to read a character as real as she is, who is simultaneously impressively competent and barely holding things together. She grows and learns and changes and makes very questionable decisions and I love every second of it.
