“the dogsbody. how had he sunk so low? he asked himself, without answer.”

“something he couldn’t put his finger on, almost like a deep current, a pulsating, living thing that has no name - united them momentarily in the darkness.”

Immediate DNF based on the author’s characterization of the overweight protagonist. Skimmed a few reviews to confirm my choice in abandoning this one.

The second book from Fernanda Melchor, written in her already familiar style is proof that there is beauty and value in the visceral, the grotesque, the hysteric and the socially destructive and I wish more authors had the honesty and the courage to explore disgusting reality rather than bask in self-indulgent fluff pieces.
