One grip I will say is how long they dragged out climax. But man it got me on my toes.
Also the drama! So scandalous It got my gasping and the whuuuut factor

Eleanor suffers from prosopagnosia, which means face blindness. Even those people who are closest to her look like strangers. Which is unfortunate, because she walked in on her grandmother’s murderer but has no way of recognizing him (or her). When Eleanor and her boyfriend get called to her grandmother’s family home to inventory her grandmother’s assets, Eleanor jumps at the chance to find out more about her mysterious family. However not everyone is who they say they are, and her grandmother’s killer may be closer than Eleanor thinks.
This story took awhile to truly grip me. It was interesting, but the ending seemed pretty far fetched. I did enjoy reading it, and once I got about halfway through, it was hard to put down!

I think what let me down on this book was how it was advertised as “horror”. I loved The Lost Village and was expecting the same spookiness, atmosphere, and tension that made it so enjoyable. This book, while fine in it’s own right, is more of a family drama/domestic thriller.
I was expecting the house to be a foreboding character into itself; but, it was glossed over repeatedly. We were told how scared everyone was but didn’t get a good feeling as to why. The sense of place that made Lost Village excellent was missing here.
I enjoy Camilla Sten’s writing and will definitely give her next book a read. This wasn’t a bad read but because it was mismarketed as horror, it was let down.

A murder witnessed by a woman who can't remember faces, an inherited estate filled with long kept secrets, and a storm trapping everyone in place! What could possibly go wrong?
Sten returns with a new novel filled to the brim with mysteries to solve and a setting that is chilly, but figuratively and literally.
Mysteries unfold in the past and the present across dual timelines giving ample time for both stories to be engaging and satisfying. I did not see the ending coming and I enjoyed the ride immensely.

I really liked this book. It took a little while to get into the writing style. I think that stems from the fact it was translated into English. I enjoyed the plot overall and I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen next. A real page turner!

Eleanor has face blindness, or prosopagnosia, and cannot see the details of a person's face. When she suddenly walks in on her grandmother's vicious murder, she cannot identify who actually did it. Then she finds out that her grandmother has left her an old family house in the woods - a house that Eleanor has never seen in person and that grandmother Viviane refused to return to. Eleanor goes there, and in the process, uncovers all the terrible family secrets that Viviane wanted to leave behind her forever.
I listened to this one on audiobook through the Libby app, although I feel I would have enjoyed it much more if I had actually read the book myself. It was a twisty, menacing read with lots of tension and nail-biting moments. I feel that Sebastian's character was a little flat and unexciting, and perhaps the author could have done more to flesh out Eleanor and make her more than a vessel for Viviane. There is a masterful job done on setting and atmosphere however, and the plot twists are well-executed. A solid and enjoyable tense read. I plan to purchase the book and reread it.

i just don’t think think this is my genre for books bc as a movie i think i would have enjoyed this way more. one of the plot twists was pretty good, the other one was lowly goofy and ridiculous. also, there were points when i thought the lore was too confusing like why are there 3 characters with a name starting w a V pls i’m dumb.
