I am enjoying the depictions of working in a public library portrayed in this series. And I'm still waiting for Louise Jane to get her due.

This was another great addition to this series. Family troubles, lighthouse, murder and stolen property and a mysterious gray woman. The characters are wonderful and the mystery moves at a good pace.

Some aspects of this series I adore and others are annoying. I will try the next book, but might shelf it if things do not improve.

Audiobook, solid narrator

I should be doing these as I go, but I've been "binging" this series. (I tend to find a cozy mystery series I like/can stand and listen as I play video games to unwind at night.) So my details on the individual books is fuzzy.

This series is well-written, though repetitive. (I actually enjoy the repetition sometimes given how I'm listening to them.) I love Charles the cat. I love the literary references/book club discussion. I like most of the characters, though it's clear a few weren't fully shaped at the beginning.

I remember with this one I thought it was obvious who the killer was right from the beginning, but maybe it was the stalker vibes that did it for me. I also can't believe how hesitant Lucy is to just SAY what's up to her mother- she can abandon a job at Harvard and move to the Outer Banks but can manage a firm conversation? I did love the moment when her mom broke down about the affair- that felt very real. I did NOT enjoy the unnecessary love triangle, but I seldom if ever do.

Overall, this series is solid if you like cozy mysteries set in and around books. If you're expecting a literary masterpiece, you're in the wrong genre in general.

Digital audiobook read by Elisa Arsenault

Book two in the Lighthouse Library mystery series focuses on Lucy Richardson’s socialite mother, Suzanne, who has come for a visit and is behaving in a very unlikely manner. Suzanne is intent on getting Lucy back to Boston and properly married. But when a library book-club attendee is found murdered in the marsh near the Lighthouse, the police suspect Suzanne, and Lucy begins to investigate on her own to clear her mother.

I like this cozy mystery series, even if Lucy does go above and beyond inserting herself into the investigation. Gates seems to be taking a page from Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, as well – giving Lucy two likely suitors in Mayor Connor McNeil and police officer Butch Greenblatt. How will she choose between these two gorgeous hunks?!

Gates fills out the cast with an assortment of charming library workers, book club enthusiasts, and Lucy’s cousin Josie (who runs a very successful bakery). The author includes many literary references to the delight of this bookworm. And the resident cat, Charles (Dickens), is a nice addition.

An enjoyable cozy mystery series, that I’ll continue reading.

Elisa Arsenault does a fine job of reading the audio version. She sets a good pace and has clear diction, so even when listening at a faster speed I could easily understand her.
