Getting out of my head and into my body has been a constant struggle for me in many aspects of life. This book has helped transform my sexuality from trauma and flashback filled to having the tools to reclaim my body and sexual pleasure as my own. I grew up being shamed and feeling guilty for any sexual desires and even years after leaving mormonism I still find myself struggling to be at peace with how I experience pleasure. This book breaks down why sex can be sacred outside of any religion--god has no place in my bedroom.

The book is full of practices, breathing techniques, and new ideas for how people can enjoy their own and their partners' bodies. I have absolutely loved experiencing the practices this book has to offer as both as an individual and with my partners. I encourage everyone who struggles with sexual pleasure to pick it up and give it a go. Even if you already enjoy most of your sexual encounters, everyone could learn a thing or two from reading this.

I plan to keep this book around for a long time--while I may be healing, I still have a lot of work to do and this book has been a huge help in allowing me to find that healing.

Excellent. Tantra for city girls/boys/everything elses. How to harness sexuality and use it for spiritual purposes (and also just joy) in our ordinary lives.
Very practical. Great exercises. Only been practicing with her tips a bit so far, but already see great results.
I think she goes a bit overboard with her emphasis on safer sex, but then again - that probably also depends on the setting.

This was pretty good. Not your regular run of the mill sex book. It contains practical exercises and information that you can practice without feeling uncomfortable or out of place.

I totally believe in the mind body connection when it comes to enjoying sex.

It made me think of some things differently -- for the better, I would say -- but generally, I found it was too new age-y for me.

Marking this as finished since it's a buddyread with my partner so we'll be reading it all year.

Until someone writes a stripped down no nonsense punk book on tantra, this is the best one I've read on the subject so far. More about practices than beliefs.

Informative and interesting. Not as accessible or applicable for disabled people or non-binary people as I think the author thinks it is but the effort is appreciated.

Barbara Carrellas is beautifully inclusive with her language, which makes this book something that will resonate with people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, relationship dynamics, and sexual preferences.

Though the book has some definite woo woo (which I enjoy), the practical tips throughout the book are what make this a goldmine of wisdom.

Carrellas' approach to sex and tantra is wonderfully modern and flexible. Whether you're into the calm, gentle aspects of intimacy or intense, kinky BDSM practices, this book makes it clear that tantra and sex are everywhere.

Perfect for people looking to connect with themselves and with a partner. Most of the exercises can be adapted for solo play, couple's play, or even group play.

The beauty of Urban Tantra is the simplicity - breathe, stay present, give totally, receive totally, and be responsible for your own pleasure. When you bring those things together - whether it's in a satin palace of sensuous delights or a dark dungeon full of pain - you can reach new sexual heights and find sacred intimacy.
