An intriguing premise, but it feels like the start of a story, rather than a story unto itself. Granted, it's part of a series, I would have just liked something of a story arc contained in one book. Personal preference, maybe. I will def pick up the next one though.

This book IS A LOT yet I'm not sure where it's going. I have some sympathy for Auren but she does have a decent case of whiny main protagonist syndrome (which I can't barely stand post-Iron Flame). I've seen that the reviews for the later books are higher and I'm curious of how much of that is sampling bias versus the books actually getting better?? so I will be reading further and will report back later. I'm looking for a HEA, but will we get it??

Super difficult to review this one because while the concept is super interesting to me, the sexual violence is constant and, of course, deeply disturbing. 
Seems like the other books in the series have higher ratings, so perhaps this element goes away in the other books?

I definitely plan to continue this series. I am intrigued by the premise and hopefully that the future books in the series will be fit my reading style a bit better. Of course the genre that it is, there are plenty of red flags a waving everywhere, but we seemed to creep through the plot. It is definitely a character focused book, but I would have loved a few more answers and something a but stronger to pull me through the slower cadence of the novel.
