This is a good early reader, and we liked the cartoon illustrations by [a:Tedd Arnold|11446|Tedd Arnold|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1206424686p2/11446.jpg], just as we are big fans of his Fly Guy series. This could fall into the Fractured Fairy Tales category as it's a spoof on many of our favorite Nursery Rhymes characters.

Little Boy Blue is now Detective Blue. Could be a fun book to use as a connector for nursery rhymes/fairy tales.

PB 39. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed other adaptations of traditional fairytales, but I think it has a lot of merits that some of the other books simply didn't have. It had a unique mode of telling the story, which could be useful in a classroom. I also feel like boys would be more receptive to this book than they might be to other books, and the spin that the author took is one that might draw in some more reluctant readers. It hardly feels as though you are reading when you are reading the story through Detective Blue's text bubbles. I enjoyed this book, but didn't love it.

Pair this with The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon to encourage your students to refresh (or learn) nursery rhymes. We all know these are good for vocabulary and the rhythm of languge, but lots of kids don't know them anymore. [b:And the Dish Ran Away with the Spoon|109905|And the Dish Ran Away with the Spoon|Janet Stevens|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171618887s/109905.jpg|105923] Knowing that the jokes in these books stem from the rhymes make the whole thing a lot of fun. This book shas lots of visual jokes, which might make it less useful for a group--Dish... has lots of verbal humor (The "fork in the road" is an actual fork, etc.)

Great connections to nursery rhymes, some subtitle in the illustrations, but it feels forced

Read for 5420 class
Picture book of Little Boy Blue who has a new profession as Detective Blue. He's on the case to solve where Miss Muffett has disappeared to. Lots of cute nursery rhyme references make this a cute picture book to introduce allusions as a literary device.
