Yay Lumberjanes!!! I have to say it was a bit jarring tone told what’s going on in my characters’ heads instead of just looking at their faces. I like the subtlety of Comics a lot.
But! This was still a super fun and cute story. I love all the Lumberjanes’ adventures. I wish Barney had gotten to come, though.

I thought this book was totally adorable! I hope there are more coming out way! I absolutely love the Lumberjanes and everything they stand for! I love all the adventures they go on! Unicorns, disappearing reappearing mountains! Ugh I love it all!

Based on the popular graphic novel series, Lumberjanes has decided to take these hardcore ladies into novel format for another round of friendship to the max. Please see my review on theuncorkedlibrarian.com ; )

this is my first Lumberjanes read, and it’s left me wanting to be a Lumberjanes scout soooo bad. It serves cosy pastoral adventures in the same way Hilda or Stardew Valley might. Lots of ingredients children should get to play with in books: nature, humour, queer rep, infallible friendship, a quest for knowledge, folklore!! Excited to get my hands on the original graphic novels!

I'm not sure on this one. Not rating till I think on it more.
It was adorable, but I found it a bit odd that the first book format set for younger readers takes into account all the events of the comics.
For first in a MG series based on a teen maybe they should have gone a prequel route, or a sort of AU. Because this certainly read as younger (and yes, even more hyper and unsubtle in messages about friendship being the most important thing), but it also had a distinct dropped in the middle feel that I worry might put off the new readers they want to attract.

Lumberjanes is just not my thing. I find them too nonsensical and never really got why they're so popular. I will admit, however, that the writing in this is good and that the crazy adventure they go on will undoubtedly be a fun read for anyone who likes the characters.

3.5 stars. With more enthusiasm than planning, the girls are off to climb a mountain, thanks to April's desire to do so and get another badge for doing so.
My first Lmberjanes story, I was a little overwhelmed at first by all the exclamation points, but got into the swing of the story. Silliness, with a ton of friendship, enthusiasm, acceptance and cheering of others.

I might have squealed in excitement when I saw this book at ALA. Could there really be anything better than a Lumberjanes novel? If so, I don't know what it would be!
So Unicorn Power! basically takes place in the universe of the Lumberjanes graphic novels. If you haven't read the graphic novels you may be a little lost as there is very little catch up here. We are thrown right into a new adventure with April, Jo, Mal, Molly and Riply. This adventure involves unicorns that smell like sweat sock soup, a mountain that disappears while you are climbing it, and cloud people. In other words, just a regular day for our intrepid hard core lady types.
Tamaki has perfectly captured the essence of the Lumberjanes, you can tell she had to have been a fan to start with. I adored the story and the illustrations. We do get a little more information about the girls, but mostly it is adventure and Friendship to the Max!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this book.

"It was a perfect day to be a Lumberjane, frankly, because every day, if you use it right, is a perfect day to be a Lumberjane. Because Lumberjanes are awesome: dedicated to friendship, learning, curiosity, and caring, to jumping into adventure with full hearts."
I ordered this book from Scholastic this spring thinking it was a graphic novel spinoff I hadn't heard of yet. Imagine my surprise when I found out this is a full-length novel featuring the lovable characters of Roanoke cabin! I was apprehensive to experience the Lumberjanes in full novel form, but I knew I had to try it. I'm so glad I did! I really enjoyed getting more details about the adventures of April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley. We meet some new characters in this story, but we also get to experience Jen, Barney, and Rosie in all of their Lumberjane glory. I really appreciated the frequent illustrations sprinkled throughout this book.
This book was so much fun. Fans of the original Lumberjanes series will love this full-length story about their favorite campers. I am very much looking forward to reading the other three full-length novels to extend my summer with the Lumberjanes.
