I enjoyed the Hallmark movie version. I randomly came across this book and didn't know the movie was based off a book. The book definitely made me want to take a trip on a train and hope there is really something special that being on a train brings out in people.

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid too sickly sweet and cheesy or maybe I'm just a cynical Scrooge!

I got it b/c it was on the bestseller list at the library, and there's just one word to describe this book - CHEESE. I mean there were couple of places where the character was cheesy funny, but the whole storyline was pretty much crap. It was as if the author started with a thought and just ran with it, without thinking about the overall story. Oh, I just noticed that in a small print on the cover of the book it says, "A Novel By the #1 New York Times Bestselling Author". Maybe that's what the library meant. I love how as soon as an author gets a book on the Bestsellers list, they can forever label all their subsequent books as "written by the #1 Bestselling Author". Kinda like when an actor wins an Oscar, or even gets nominated for one, they are forever advertised as "Oscar-winner", "Oscar nominee"... or my favorite - "5 Time Oscar Nominee" - who basically was never good enough.

For me this one was just “okay” the ramblings about Mark Twain and the in-depth indie dumps about the history of railroads was just not for me. The story in general was cute and I think plenty will love this one!
I would like to note that the narrator was quite funny at times and that brought me a lot of giggles.

I don't like trains, I don't like the slowness, both of trains and this novel. Yes, there is a minor crime and major heroics, but it doesn't do much for me.

This book felt like it was a bit slow for me. It just didn't keep me engaged very well through the first 1/4 to 1/2; hence I read the last 1/2 in one day. Characters are well-defined and a good overall message even with a "not so bad", bad guy.

I probably would have enjoyed the book much more had I not already seen the Hallmark movie. The movie was good...but I liked how the ending was done in the book better.
