I won this book through a GoodReads contest and was very excited to receive it so quickly. Honestly, I have had some issues with Ms. Clare's books in the past. They seem super hit or miss for me, and frankly a lot more misses. Being familiar with "The Dangerous Rogue" series, I have been long interested in Jez's story. In the previous books, she always caught my attention. It is always my favourite plot romance to have friends to lovers, and in many ways Hayden and Jez did not disappoint. The book starts off with the lowest, saddest point in Jez's life and Hayden is steadfast throughout. I understand the need for angst and drama, but in many ways it didn't make sense how long it took for Jez to realize that Hayden truly loved her and his intentions were pure. With her horrible marriage behind her I can understand her being gunshy, but Hayden was a friend for ten plus years and her nervousness about marriage to him did not seem to be based in reality. That being said, their HEA was believable and well-deserved.

All in all this was an engaging read, my favourite from this author so far. I was pleased to receive it through the GR's contest, and would not hesitate to recommend this book to fans of historical romances.
