This was such a heartbreaking book. I had to put it down at certain times because I was so emotionally overwhelmed. To me this is Hobb at her best. The characters are perfectly written again, there are some surprises in how the story is told. Fitz is the same old idiot he has always been, but he is so loveable still. I am glad to see this series starting off this strong after I was left disappointed by the Rainwild Chronicles.

Preposterously good. Robin Hobb never disappoints.

Wow, just great. I never knew what to expect. I NEVER expected in the 7th Fitz book, that we would . Ever. Most all of the plot twists caught me utterly by surprise. I was invested in the plot development, and constantly trying to figure out where it was all going. 4.5 stars!

I do not have the attention span for this right now. It's one of those books that wants you to think while reading.

Not as good as the Farseer trilogy or the Tawny man. The atmosphere is there, the setting of the characters in their mature years interesting, but the plot is developed too slow. I really liked Bee.
