Descriptive to the point of confusion, builds up tension slowly, managing to be comparatively scary by the end. The story uses a large (and in my case new) vocabulary, which made it challenging to determine whether or not I understood what Poe was trying to write.

The Fall of the House of Usher is one of the best works of gothic horror of all time. From its disturbing and bleak beginning, to its chaotic and spirited end; the short story is a masterpiece in horror literature. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should read The Fall of the House of Usher, even if you're not a horror fan, it's simply that good.

Classic horror is really hit or miss for me. I might have liked this of it was longer and more in depth.

This short story was a really quick listen on audio, I even listened twice in a row because I felt like I didn’t get it the first time. Reading it again helped me see more value in the story, though it wasn’t nearly as creepy as I hoped. I think I just prefer more modern horror. This old piece is tricky to understand the nuances of.

The creepiness was creeping and the craziness was crazying. Slayed (literally).

Some guy meets his old NPF-coded pal to show his condolences since his sister has just died. He lives in a creepy house with a shit garden. The weather sucks and he tries to read novels to his friend to cheer him up.
Suddenly the sister wakes up and the house kinda blows up.

"[W]ith the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit."

An undeniably classic and influential gothic horror tale. Its extreme literariness can make it quite difficult to follow, but nevertheless, Poe's writing is so beautifully atmospheric.
