I like it.

I really appreciate how [a:Jason Reynolds|21487627|Jason Reynolds|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] opened my eyes, that this way of living really happening out there, out of my comfort zone. And as much as I sometimes found it unbearable and made me uncomfortable, I must face the truth about what's the reality for some people out there.

I really love the way he wrote it in verse. This is the first time I wrote a book written in verse so I don't have many experiences with it. But, I must say, even though I was surprised, I'm not really disappointed in the end. It's so beautifully written.

“but if blood inside you is on the inside of someone else,

you never want to see it on the outside of them”
― Jason Reynolds, Long Way Down

I love how each character that Will encountered during his way down, bring some lesson with them.
1. Buck -- he questioned Will and even mock him whether he had it in him, but he also made sure to check the bullets.
2. Dani -- she made sure Will considered the possibility if his shoot were miss and she made him remembered when he witnessed the way somebody died because she's shot in front of him.
3. Uncle Mark -- he made sure Will played the scene in his head and how it's gonna unfolds.
4. His Pop -- made Will understood his emotion he felt right now was the same as the one his father felt back then, and that was what brought him to his death. And Will must face the possibility of him being shot in the head after he took revenge. After all, the cycle never ends and when it ends, it never ends well.
5. Frick -- Frick was the one who made him understood a bigger picture behind his brother death. That it all connected in a cycle.
6. And lastly, as you guess it, Shawn -- He punished Will by refusing to speak to him, similar to what he did when he's alive.

In the end, they're all broke the rules in this elevator rides- maybe not about the snitching part, but I guess even though Will denied to picture what Tony did as a snitch, in my mind, it's still can be considered as a snitching. And that really what brought his brother to his grave.
Because, the rules were the one who killed his brother and his dad, really.

Maybe, it's all Will unconscious mind played trick in his mind to really considered what he's gonna do. Maybe, it's really happened...

Either way, I like how this book open to so many interpretations and endings. I'm somewhat disappointed because some BookTuber spoiled the ending (the way she interpreted it) when she did some wrap up in her video before I've got the chance to read it. But, having read it myself, I must say the ending is so open and that's what I enjoyed the most about this book.

Read for African-American Lit
I don't even know what to say about this. Novels-in-verse are so fascinating and this one felt like a gut-punch. Dang. This one will be on my mind for a long time.

This book was such an easy and quick read. The characters were all round even with shorter descriptions. And this book teaches a masterclass in structure, pacing, and suspense. I loved how the entire story takes place in about 80seconds. What a read.
