I’ve heard great things about Kasie West, and I did enjoy a previous book of hers PS I Like You and The Distance Between Us, so I went into By Your Side with relatively high expectations. I did enjoy By Your Side, but I do feel that there was nothing really special about it. Though, admittedly, it’s a cute book. It’s by no means a bad book or badly written (in fact, it was a relatively easy book to read with a nice and neat prose) but nothing really set it apart from any other contemporary or romance, except maybe our MC with an anxiety disorder.

I thought that Autumn was a fun and witty character and she had a good voice, and I enjoyed her and Dax’s dialogue, interaction and chemistry. BUT, there is a love triangle. It was there to create conflict between Autumn and her friends, and Autumn and Dax and I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had it not been there.

The premise is great though, and if you’re an avid fan of romance and contemporary books, I would recommend this book. Especially if you’re a book lover because, hello, LOCKED IN A LIBRARY.

Me ha gustado.
Es un libro sencillo y fácil de leer con nada especialmente destacable. No te cambiará la vida pero te tendrá entretenido toda la tarde.

This is one sitting read book, and I really missed those kinds of books.
I've read all (Kasie West)'s books, and this one goes into the middle of my preferences.

I enjoyed it, maybe more than her last 2 books, but still nothing compares to "Distance Between Us".

I just felt everything rushed at the end, and a lot of things I don't know seemed easy while the main character seemed to struggle the whole book about.

Actual rating 3.5.

Second Review : 03/25/20
Reading this one took me a lot of time. Probably because I get easily distracted (phone) and also because it became harder for me to read since I, too, have Anxiety. Some scenes were actually hard to swallow so I had to put it down for a mean time and process my emotions. Having anxiety really do sucks. Always worrying about anything or what might other think. Furthermore, the inability to control what your mind and body feels. Now that I am full aware of what I have been experiencing, (since the last time I read this, I wasn't fully aware that I even have Anxiety) this book hits hard at some scenes. Especially the latter part, in full honesty, I cried while reading it. I could feel the same tension Autum was feeling. It's as if I was the one in her place and it was hard to digest.
But one thing is for sure, I still love Dax Miller. For a guy, to make a girl relax and help her through episodes; speaks volumes. Not all guy can fully comprehend how anxiety feels like and how it works. Yet, he was there willing to understand and care for Autumn when she needed it. I love that about him. I swooned so hard for him.
Now, I need more of their sweet moments. I needed more of Dax and Autumn's new relationship. I'm craving for more. This book is so good. Surely, I will pick it up and read it again some day.

First Review :

Kasie West's books always gets rid of my reading slump. This one is a light read and I just find myself reading the entire book in less than a day. I really like Dax Miller and Autumn Collin's character development here.
Spoiler What I hate is Dallin, at first I liked him but then again he's being such a jerk to Autumn. No matter how pissed you are, you don't treat a girl like that. Anyway, it clearly too short and I needed more of Autumn's new found relationship.
But I guess that's how it ends.

Kasie West stories are the most adorable. This story was no exception. I particularly love that the locked in the library premise wasn't where this story ended. West has become an autobuy author for me and her books are my absolute favorite thing to read when I need a little extra sweetness in my life. ♡

A cute and fluffy book - Kasie West seems to be back again! After her last book, P. S. I Like You, was quite a fail for me and it seemed that Kasie West was losing her "touch", I had high hopes for this one. And while it didn't quite reach The Distance Between Us levels it was still a solidly good book.

What made me have high hopes for this book was the fact that it promised us a girl and a boy trapped in a library. With books. Lots and lots of books. A bookish person's dream come true. And the romance was cute. I'll give you that. No insta love (well, not really, just mildly). But there was kind of a love triangle. Not all too heavy and not a typical one but be warned.
But the book lacked at some other parts.

The characters fell flat. They had no depth, they just seemed to be stereotypes. No backstories whatsoever, I would've wished to see more of Dax's past.
Autumn's friends were the worst. What kind of friends are they? How could they forget her? How could they have not known that she had anxiety? What's wrong with them??
Also, the ending felt too convenient and not realistic at all. Especially the part about Jeff, like, that would've never happen like it did in the book in real life.

Despite its flaws, I still enjoyed By Your Side very much, hence its rather high rating for all of my problems with this book.

I read this book in a matter of hours, it was so good and I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what was going to happen. A great read! I got emotional a couple times and had all the feels. Would 100% recommend for a nice sweet book that’s a quick read!
