Captain America and the Mighty Avengers, Volume 1: Open for Business by Al Ewing

A pretty good book. But kind of jumpy, like what happens when pieces of the story are just missing - though in this case part of the story-line is just published elsewhere. Which goes to show you, repeating the stories are annoying and not repeating the stories is distracting. The random nature of this team still kind of works. Even the Beyond Corporation story-line is pretty good. I especially like the Mighty Avenger's defense against Luke Cage going evil. In the end, the book was just a little too uneven. 3.5 of 5.

This volume is too hard to read as a stand alone; everything keeps getting set up and resolved off screen in other titles, and only the middles are in Mighty Avengers. Unfortunately, cause there's some potentially interesting middleage in here.

Great stories hampered by the need to work in elements from Marvel’s crossover du jour,

Pretty damn great. I really like Sam Wilson as Captain America, and I think this was a good intro to the differences between the Mighty Avengers and the Avengers. Seriously good shit going down in this one...but the next one is Last Days so pre secret wars and HERES HOPING NO ONE DIES (everyone is probably going to die)

So many references to all the other things. I guess it's tying a whole bunch of stuff together or something, but as a jumping off point for a new series it's not inspiring me to read more. Calling the Jean Grey School "We're-All-Gonna-Die High" is worth a star right there, though.
