3.5 stars—I liked that the story was told from multiple perspectives across generations, but I found that the dialogue between characters served primarily to move the plot forward and didn’t necessarily read to be natural/authentic. There is a lot of the author telling us what the characters thought directly. That being said, I loved Isra’s character and was moved by her story and I appreciate an own voices novel by a debut author.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of this book, but I was so drawn to the characters. I'm also struggling to love this book when I don't know how that will be perceived... The characters struggle through their lives and I don't live that, but I do love being a witness to their path.

I appreciated the visibility into oppression of women & Palestinians both in Palestine and in the US. However, the book is very repetitive with characters that are summed up with 1-2 characteristics. It could have been a lot better.
