Think I just have a book hangover from the nightingale. I will try this one again later.

Well, I have enjoyed this more than I expected. There was one point in the book where I was ready to put it down, flagging it as "usual YA romance crap" (about thirdway through), but thankfully that was the only major offense the book committed. I'm sick of YA books, because of their disgusting, and absolutely unrealistic romance. Ugh.

All that Discount Armageddon offers is a light, fun read, although I wouldn't call it action-packed or fast-paced. It's also occasionally silly, and has its share of inconsistencies, but overall it's offset by the fact that it's not taking itself too seriously.

A major issue was that the story picks up VERY slowly. It took about 40% of the book to get to the part where stuff is actually happening.
Also, the protagonist girl, although kind of cute, its not too bright. Now, she's not dumber than all the other protagonists out there, but still annoyed me really often.
The book isn't exactly full of unexpected turns of events - I had seen most everything coming miles away, which was kind of disappointing...

Nonetheless, a light, (not-so-)instant-fun kind of book. I'll probably check out the next part of the series, when I'm in a mood for this kind of a book.

4.5/5 - but I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt for originality's sake. Cutesy blondes aren't really my thing - I have a well-known penchant for liking my urban fantasy dark-covered dark with a side of dark - but this book was awesome. Even the Infuriating Eventual Love Interest was handled well. (My only beef with that is there was too little description at the outset, so I'm still not 100% sure what he looks like, or if he's Italian or Spanish, or if he has an accent. There was far more description of the random encounter in the club, whom I thought we would see again but did not. Dickensian characters rankle me hard, but the fury was so quickly passing I can't detract a whole star from it.)
