OK you have a non-magical human living in a magical world and she has to hook up with the biggest baddest (sexiest) guy in town to save her friend and hide her from the mysterious group that's out to get her.  Sounds fun right?  Well, it would be if it was executed well but the puzzle pieces didn't quite fit together right for me.

The good, our MMC is the book boyfriend you crave.  I really enjoyed his character.  A bit too "tortured and broody" at times for me.  And I feel like his character was supposed to be a sweet for her and friends only but still scary and yet the scary part kinda fell away a bit.  But still, you know he's damn sexy and it works.

Our FMC, I didn't like her.  She annoyed the hell outta me.  She's not the worst FMC I've read, it kinda came in waves.  But she did that thing where she'd freak out then be fine then freak out then be fine in a way that didn't mesh.  And you want her to go get a head CT because anytime she'd get nervous beezy had no balance, the world tilted, felt like she was walking on an ocean, etc.  Is there no other way to describe anxiety?

The supporting cast, was just eh to me.  The plot twists at the end were kinda surprising but also a bit mediocre.

I liked the components of this book, I liked the premise, it just all seemed a bit disjointed.  I think i stayed for the MMC. There's a second book and to be honest I don't know if I'll read it.

Walmart Crescent City, and I don't mean that as a compliment to Crescent City.

Too messy and handwavy in terms of plot development and worldbuilding for an almost 800-page long series opener. The lack of chemistry between the main couple, as well as everyone elses nonexistent personalities, certainly didn't make up for it either. Overall a quick and easy read, but underwhelming for sure.
