I didn't think this was unbelievable, but it definitely kept my attention and the did download some of the other books in the series.

It started slow, but sped up halfway through. I thought there was too much down time after all the action.

Romantic thriller
Childhood sweethearts
Slow burn
Tortured hero
Small town
Multi timeline
Forced proximity
Dual POV
Second chance
Cute nickname
Past trauma
Gun violence
Spicy
Found family

Hard to believe one book has so many tropes!

CW: gun violence, violence, death, abandonment

I liked both Holt and Wren. I appreciated Wren standing up for herself because Holt decided he wasn't good enough and left her. Also, I liked that she realized she had grown and became stronger because he had left. Something she wasn't sure she would have done if he was there. I liked that Holt realized his past mistakes, owned up to them, and worked to make amends. I had early guesses as to who the bad guy was. I was surprised by who it was.  Overall, I enjoyed this one.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
