Detta är den femte boken i rad författad av Annie Ernaux som jag läst. Boken fokuserar kring en händelse som skedde i augusti/september 1958 och en tid därefter. Författarjaget tillbringar en sommar som ledare på ett läger för yngre ungdomar. En natt tillbringar hon en natt med en något äldre man. Det blir hennes första sexuella upplevelse.
I boken berättar hon om hur den unga kvinnan uppfattar det som skett och hur det har påverkat hennes liv under de kommande ett par åren. Händelsen berättas av författaren nästan 50 år senare med de erfarenheter av livet som hon hunnit skaffa sig. Hon reflekterar över de livsval som kvinnan gjorde efter den händelse som hon varit med om. Det är en öppenhjärtig och, som jag uppfattar det, en väldigt ärlig historia som Annie har skrivit.

I enjoyed this - already quite enamoured with Ernaux's style, it was interesting to follow her musings on girlhood, adolescence and the exploration of memory and remembering. I found it to be slightly too slow-paced at times unfortunately.

A really beautiful book about the process of remembering. Yes, it’s about memory and the girl that Annie was all those years ago, but it’s also about who she is now. It’s about the role that the past has on the present and the influence of one’s own (perception of their own) history.
