While I wouldn’t say The Tourist Attraction was a great book, I thought it was a cute but quirky closed-door rom-com.

Set in the beautiful Alaskan mountains, The Tourist Attraction focuses on a tourist going on her dream Alaska vacation and ends up falling in love with the town’s grumpy restaurant owner.

There are things that worked and didn’t work well in this book. While the MCs have a pretty decent character development, Morganthaler spends a lot of time on detailing the most minor of characters, appearing in only a chapter or two and later becoming a forgettable entity. Additionally, while I did think this book can be funny at times, the slapstick humor that Morganthaler utilized in The Tourist Attraction felt, at times, forced.

Nevertheless, the book isn’t bad and I would recommend it for readers who want a destination read that focuses on more quirkier characters. However, there is definite room for improvement.

This is one of the rare times when I don't know what particularly was bothering me about the book, but I just didn't click with it like I tend to with rom-coms. I thought the plot was a fun idea and I liked the main characters. I love a man who loves his dog. However, I don't know if it was the pacing or the dialog but even listening to the audiobook I was never motivated to continue the story.

I might (emphasis on might) have given this book a higher rating, but the author uses highly fatphobic language frequently throughout the book when describing characters (not as a theme of the book or from one character describing another).

I listed ‘sexual content’ as a minor content warning, but any sex-related scenes are fade-to-black.

The book has a lot of cute moments and is
a Happily Ever After
but doesn’t really earn it and is ultimately unsatisfying.

Ok 30% of this book is a delightful romp in Alaska. The rest is a romance filled with toxic masculinity and underdeveloped characters. I wanted to enjoy my time in Moose Springs, but if I were friends with Zoey (she seems to only have one and absolutely no life outside of a truck stop back in her hometown) I would tell her to run away from this man who is way to quick to violence.

This was not the grumpy/sunshine I was expecting. I don't even think I would call it that. The guy is more of a jerk who almost instantly falls for a quirky girl, but except towards her and a few friends (plus an admittedly very cute dog) he is still basically the same person in the end. There are several instances of toxic masculinity throughout. The main characters have little depth. The side characters are cardboard cutouts for the mains to interact with. Also in spite of all the over the top things that happen, it is boring. If you are looking for steam you won't find it here.

At 65% I just started skimming. There’s no conflict whatsoever. I also couldn’t find a goal of the characters to care about. The romance was obvious but still forced and the antics of the rich tourists were met with the same response over and over, which means there was no tense moment in the whole book, despite the fact that Graham seems to be constantly trying to fight someone.

Additionally, I think part of the issue was there were too many characters. We never really get to know anyone enough to care about them.

I feel like I didn’t entirely do this book justice because this month was so crazy so hectic and anytime I was picking this up it was for such a short period of time that I don’t think I embraced the story to its fullest and paid attention as much as I possibly could that being said I really enjoyed it I loved the ending I love the characters and their personalities and the things that they liked and the things that they did I loved the little bit of action and the freaking moose and a dog and a kissing and the ATV incident I just loved it all.
