I don’t normally do one stars. I was extra annoyed when I found out this was part of the Reese book club. For the simple fact being this book is poorly written. I wanted to enjoy this. Cuba is an amazing place to set the story, but nothing was really done right to do it justice. They mention that there are women doing their part, but you never see that it’s only the men who feel revolutionary. You don’t even get fun drama at the parties or social events. This needed several revisions. It’s so bland. Reese book club has lost all validation after this.

While I liked the concept of the story, the actual novel left me disappointed, much like the revolution in Cuba. I did learn a lot about Cuba specifically the events that lead up to the revolution and putting Castro in charge.
There was too much romance in the book. Not spicy but too much time dedicated to the romance stories. Plus the current timeline story/romance was based on trauma and over a week. I also didn't find the characters to be likable. I didn't hate them, I just didn't vibe with them.
It wasn't a bad book but I do not plan on reading any more in the series.

Appreciated the history lesson but really hated the contrived love stories. I found both relationships to be unrealistic.

I throughly enjoyed this story and had a hard time putting it down! If you love learning about history then this is definitely a great read, I also love the two POVs.

I loved this book! The jumping back and forth between eras and the two stories meeting up to be one! Definitely got me hooked!

Usually with stories like this, with two time lines, I find one more interesting than the other. I didn't have that issue with this book and found both main characters compelling. However, I thought Marisol's romance was a bit forced.
