The Illiad tells the tale of the ten year war in Troy and Achilles rage, and Odysseuss' harrowing journey back home.
Let's start this review off with how long this book took me read. I started this back on August 17th and I now just finished it. I will say I gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars as it's Greek mythology and one of finest literature pieces out there. And I just absolutely loved it. Definitely was interesting to read as I read a dumb down and completely different version of this back in high school. Also I would like to say that we need to remake the movie Troy and actually add the gods into it. As they had a huge part in both stories. Just my personal opinion, don't come for me. I absolutely love the movie Troy (especially since it has Brad Pitt in it 😏.)

I didn't like either of these translations. The stories themselves were probably better than I experienced them to be, but some of the choices made to tell them were weird and rambly when they likely didn't need to be. A prose translation is really probably not the best way to read either of these epics.

This translation of the Illiad is akin to a factual summary of each book. It was useful to me as a school book to understand what happened, but was not enjoyable or rewarding. I recommend the Fagles translation instead, as it is incredible prose. I haven’t read the Iliad in the original Greek, so I can’t compare in which is most true to Homers intent. However, with the Fagles translation I experienced the story and felt involved. The Butler translation is very “and then he did this”.
