okay so it’s been a while since i first read this and i remember feeling conflicted about it but i decided to try it again and whew! i remember why i was struggling to get through it. i love OTT/melodramatic books depending on mood and i can even deal with ‘alpha girls’ (if i’m using that correctly) but it crossed the line into Not Like Other Girls mindset with the fmc and honestly there seems to be a lot of girl hate.

her constantly finding a reason to fight girls for these guys who bullied her over pretty much nothing when she first came is crazy business. it’s ridiculous considering she seems to pride herself on being a lone wolf/badass etc. like why would she go out of her way and risk trouble for these guys? not to mention i kinda thought this was gonna be an RH cause i find the maddoc guy boring but i clued on too late and i’m probably being a little harsh because it didn’t meet my expectations. i found her pretty flat too, despite the fact that she sleeps with a knife under her bed and fights in underground fight clubs (shockingly enough).

it got really repetitive really fast and i wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style but it could’ve been worse. it was DEFINITELY too long, there was no need for this to be as long as it was when it barely had a plot outside of the “romance”, which felt lacking too. i just don’t believe he knows her well enough to like her like that and he doesn’t seem to show it in anyway except jealousy. i can deal with that in some books but i think the internalised misogyny throughout just lowered my tolerance for all the other stuff i didn’t like.

i did enjoy her platonic relationships for the most part and i’m slightly curious to see how things play out in at least the beginning of the next book but i don’t know if i’m curious enough to actually pick it up. i think if i do read it i’ll wait a little while before i pick it up since these books seem to be unnecessarily long and i don’t know if i can put myself through this again so soon. <\3
