This book very much feels like the second in a series, but not in a bad way. A lot happens in the book, but it feels sort of like a stepping-stone to get to the resolution of the third book. The 2nd and 3rd books are some of the best depiction in literature of PTSD that I've ever read.

This was a re-read for me. The book was absolutely devastating. I forgot how heartbreaking the story is, particularly the first half of the book . It's a crazy experience to feel such sympathy for fictional characters.

How is it possible that I enjoyed this book even more than the first one? Katniss’ world is in flux and it felt like there was a constant stream of twists and turns. This book definitely sets up the third book, but it didn’t feel like a middle book in a trilogy. It has much less fighting/hunger games than the first book but a lot of uncertainty and character development in the face of the Panem’s changes. My heart aches for Peeta…
