this book was not what i had expected going in. i hoped for something different, but it was a very good read. it brings a sort of empathy you would never expect to have, and really broke my heart time and time again. wouldn’t recommend to anyone, but is one i’ll think about for a while.

Tragic and goes far beyond the shock value elevator pitch, this was a very sad but well written portrayal of a neglected child and how she tries to break that cycle of violence and neglect as an adult. Thought provoking.

This book feels like a punch in the gut. Lots of deep, dark undertones throughout the entire story that leaves you conflicted about how to really feel about the main character Chrissie/Julia. Kept me hooked though, was able to get through it over a weekend.
