This is basically pretty little liars. I don’t really like any of the girls but I must know how it ends

Definitely better than the first one.
And hopefully the girls will talk more with each other. I don't like Emerson, she's so judgmental. Tenley is growing on me, especially when she gets mad at her date for calling Sidney a loser.
And Sidney, I think she's the one with the serious problems and the one with more to lose, I really hope they find out who the darer is.

After the last page twist at the end of Truth or Dare, the game has gotten more dangerous for Tenley and Sydney. And a new player has been added to the game: gorgeous but troubled Emerson, Caitlyn's best friend. After the ending of book one, the darer has upped the stakes and the girls now fear for their lives.

My favourite of the three girls is currently Emerson. I still find Tenley really manipulative and unlikable and Sydney a bit boring. Emerson I really felt for, although I was screaming inside at her a few times. Especially about Josh, who seems like a YA dream boy.

Most of the plot in this installment consists of the girls trying to figure out the identity of the darer, following the darer's instructions and debating whether to go to the cops. The girls learn that the scope of the darer's plans is bigger than they first imagined. I found it a bit frustrating how the darer seemed to be everywhere and know everything (this is explained a bit at the end of the book). I think this aspect was meant to be terrifying (which it would be in real life), but instead I found myself getting frustrated at the seemingly impossibility of the logistics of things. I think that really stopped me from being totally invested in the story and really hurt the creepy factor for me.

With that same, I definitely plan to continue this series. I need to know who the darer is! I'm also really curious to see how far the darer has gone and possibility how long they have been at it. So the whole aspect of not-knowing has definitely got me hooked on this series, despite it's flaws.

This series is cute and fluffy but isn't really selling me on the drama. Sometimes it gets lost in the silly high school drama that just seems so mundane when people are in the hospital or dying around them.

I'm still curious to see how this all pans out, but I don't think this series is as good as the one it's typically compared to.

Usually, people agree that sequels are far worse than the originals, whatever that may be. That, however, is not the case with Secrets and Lies. Truth or Dare was very slow moving, and a little bit corny (was kind of like a knock-off Pretty Little Liars with not as likable characters). I was hesitant to continue with the series but I'm glad I decided to keep reading. The second book in the trilogy picks up a little bit after the first one and introduces a whole new character that is way more likable than Caitlin (sorry, Caitlin fans). Jacqueline saved this trilogy by killing Caitlin off in the first book and replacing her with Emerson, so thank you Ms. Green! The girls continue to be tormented by this anonymous Darer but instead of playing victim like in book one, each girl is digging for clues and won't stop until they get them. There are some parts in the book that were only set up for storyline purposes, which I completely understand. But at the same time, they didn't flow neatly together. That's not a huge problem though, because writing a mystery complex as this one, is difficult. I give Jacqueline a two thumbs up on this book. Can't wait to start the third one tomorrow!

This is one of those series that needs readers to have read the first book before embarking on the second because otherwise the start is just too confusing. Note: I was not one of those readers and had to keep flipping back to the very start to try to keep the characters separate.

There are some obvious questions to be answered here, like who is behind the Dares and who could possibly know all these secrets. The less obvious questions are why none of the girls doesn't just bite the bullet and go to their parents or the police. Yes, teens feel as though their secrets are that huge but in this case? After what happened in Book One, surely someone would have decided Enough. Beyond that, there are a few pacing problems, and it sometimes feels as though we're rushing from event to event.
