Topics we need to be talking about but I wasn’t too fond of her style. Lots of yelling, exclamations, italics, and crowded chapters.

Won this in a goodreads giveaway, so thank you to the author and publisher! This was a very cool read. As a young woman who is currently pursuing her MBA and plans on working in corporate America, and as a woman who hopes to be a mom someday, all these statistics and stories were heartbreaking and eye opening at the same time. I enjoyed the writing style and found everything easy to follow. I will be sharing this with friends!

Really quick read - there seems to be a mismatch between the purpose and the (intended) audience. It felt like a lot of educating on the state of the union, and while not many women/mothers can recite statistics off the top of their heads, sureLy we understand what a (terrible) state we’re in. Not sure how i feel about the “monthly payment to moms” - doesn’t that just perpetuate the problem by sticking a bandaid on it? The real solution should be tackling the why and how of the fact that the women/mothers are taking on more of the housework/childcare.

Read this for a work book club. It was informative and affirming, but I didn’t think there was a lot of new info in it. I have read or heard most of this before. Also, like others have said, I didn’t realize this was only about mothers who work. I am a mom so I identified with a lot of what was said, but I think it should have been clearer that this was the focus. This was also US-centric so a lot of it doesn’t apply outside the US - I’m in Canada and we already have paid parental leave, for example.

You need to read this book. I had so much to learn & this is chalk full of history & statistics. If you want to know how women can succeed both at home and in the workplace, Reshma has thoughtfully put together the plan.

5 stars because I appreciate that Saujani takes a lot of time to explain how making life better for working moms is better for all of society - children women, men, companies, everyone. Its a high level task but she actually breaks down steps for women, companies and even government policies.
