This is an excellent sequel to the original book, however I felt that I was missing out on key information at parts, or that some things just didn't make much sense. Like Feyre's new abilities didn't take too long to master, or how she understood what someone meant by something but there was no explanation as to what she was understanding.

However, I ate this up. The new characters grew on me immediately- Cassian, Azriel, Mor, Amren. I fell in love with Rhysand over and over again through his and Feyre's flirting, through the ways he showed how much he cared for her well-being.

Very well thought out backgrounds to events that took place in the first book, brilliant descriptions which added to the already well established worldbuilding, drama and advernture, friendship and betrayal, trust and love and heartbreak and spice. What more could you want?

WOW.

Simply put - this book is 1000 times better than ACOTAR. As someone who typically doesn't choose fantasy books, I enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses but was not blown out of the water as it felt pretty surface level and the characters lacked backstory. However, Maas has entirely made up for what ACOTAR lacked in A Court of Mist and Fury.

I gasped aloud, shook my head, teared up, and went through a roller coaster of emotions during this read. I do not think there was a single point that I felt bored while reading or uninvested in the characters.

Spoiler Also, the slow burn between Rhysand and Feyre!!! Maas drew that out 500+ pages, but it was worth the wait. I was honestly surprised to find that I enjoyed how Feyre and Rhysand's relationship was kept (relatively) platonic throughout the book (while of course toeing the line) as I think it helped me appreciate their storylines more and I also am more invested in their relationship now.

The friendships that persisted between the characters of the Night Court's inner circle were so lovely to read and I loved that we learned each one's backstory (but there is definitely still more to learn). They are truly the star of the show throughout this book!

Spoiler Okay...almost last thing...but the ENDING!?!?!? Oh my god. I almost lost it there. I am itching to start the next book (had to wait for it at the library) and find out how Feyre gets herself out of this little pickle all while bringing Spring Court and the King of the Hybern to the ground (hopefully?).

If you are not convinced enough at this point that this book is worth the hype - I read the last 400 pages in about a day and a half. Seriously.

The fact that I swore I would never read this series and yet here we are rating this 5 stars?!? This was perfection. I havent been this engrossed I'm anything since twilight, which was a long long time ago 😅

Also, excuse me but Rhys??? I knew that booksta and booktok was obsessed but I stupidly thought they were exaggerating. They weren't. Rhys is literally E V E R Y T H I N G and im here for it.

Big upgrade from the first book. Spice level increased by a good 40%. Enjoyed watching feyre’s progress and how she flourishes. It was nice to be able to relate to her mental health problems but watching her find herself again and find what life had to offer really just inspires hope in me. I’m excited for the next book albeit I don’t believe any other book in the series will live up to the expectations of this book.

Now for my English friends:
This one was far better than the first one because there is finally some more action and Feyre as well as other characters get some really good character development. The writing style was fantastic, it pulled me into the story and I loved the funny bits of it. There were only some minor things in the beginning, about beauty, that bothered me.
SpoilerI think Velaris will have a special place in my heart and the Night Court can live there rent free.
