I really disliked this and couldn’t even finish it. The characters are all incredibly dull and flat. I liked Ida and Rose better than the rest but to me they’re still not round characters. I had trouble remembering who was who because of their lack of personality. I had to drag myself through almost 80% of it but cannot continue.

There was something to be salvaged from that house and room, something else they wouldn’t be able to get over - his voice speaking a message to her: if there was a child, speaking to the child. ‘If he loved you,’ the priest had said, ‘that shows…’
