I enjoyed this book but I felt the premise wasn’t the most believable. There is no way that particular group of women would have made it in those arctic conditions. I felt they were all flying by the seat of their pants.

The tension in flipping back and forth between the trial (which was highly melodramatic) and the expedition made the book worthwhile for me. Especially the description Caprice’s death had me on the edge of my seat.

Overall - not bad - just okay.

This was very dramatic and exciting. I enjoyed the dual views of the expedition and the trial. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I got this as part of The Booked Traveler box and I enjoyed the gifts. The story really kept me engaged and I had hated putting it down to sleep.

I had high hopes going into this book when I saw it was about a women's secret 1850s Arctic expedition and murder trial, but this was a slow burn for me. While the atmospheric writing was a highlight, I didn't connect with any of the characters and the court scenes felt a bit implausible to me. Also, I found the constant jumping between different time periods a bit jarring, so I had trouble getting hooked and invested in the story because of it. Loved the premise, but not the execution.

great concept and characters but the actual book just fell short. much of it didn't feel very well developed, a few loud mistakes in terms of the history, generally could have done with being double the length

Super fun concept. Fast Paced, maybe too fast paced in some parts. I feel like I could have heard a lot more about the other women's viewpoints instead of snippets; but overall a fun novel and a unique, satisfying read.
