Aaah, the Chronicles trilogy. What made me love the Dragonlance campaign setting. Fun fact, I never managed to play a campaign in dragonlance, even though I feel Dragonlance and Ravenloft are the most interesting classic DnD campaign settings. Anyway, onto the books.

Ok, let us not pretend this is a literary masterpiece. What it is though, is a well written, if somewhat trope-y adventure, that has many ups and downs. And I am extremely fond of it. It features some very interesting and, frankly, classic characters, like Reistlin, Tasslehoff, Fizban, and Lord Soth. My rating of this trilogy is deliberately lower than I want to give it, because I won't even begin to pretend that I do not look at this with the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia. But even on a later re-read, it did held up for me. So maybe I should be giving it 4 stars for it. But somehow, I have the feeling that if I was reading it now, in 2023, for the first time, my reaction to it would be very different. So ok, 3 stars it is.

Some DnD players grew up with Drizzt. I grew up with this.

"The future changes as we stand here"
Fizban "21 gun salute"
"Surm had seen the world in all its radiant colors, in all its bleak greyness."

Sturm all of his life dreamed of being a night of the Measure. When he finally got in and continued to fulfill his duty and the vision, he realized it wasn't all it was made up to be and others did not ruly live to these standards. I enjoyed the first book in the series better, but look forward to the next...UPDATE: I LOVED the third book in the series

As I said in the review for Autumn Twilight, I don't remember when I read this trilogy, but I am really glad I am re-reading it. I have never played the role-playing games, but I found the Forgotten Realms and the Dragonlance books to be pretty good.

Excellent continuation of the series!! While the first book took a bit of time to introduce all the characters and their relationships, this book was able to explore all of that more deeply while being packed with action and adventure!

I feel like several characters grappled with difficult emotions in this book and I loved seeing them grow through those struggles. There was a bit more exploration of the world which I found very fun! A couple parts of the book felt like they were slow when dealing with some of the politics of the war going on but overall was very enjoyable and makes me super excited to read the next one!!
